Let’s Talk About Body Fat: The Number That Really Matters
Have you ever stepped on a scale and felt confused or frustrated by the number staring back at you? You’re not alone — and at Lowcountry Elite Performance, we’re here to tell you that number doesn’t tell the whole story.
Instead of focusing on your total weight, we want to help you understand a much more meaningful metric: Percent Body Fat (PBF).
Why Percent Body Fat Matters More Than Weight
The scale only tells you how much you weigh. It doesn’t tell you how much of that weight is fat versus muscle, or how your body composition has changed over time.
You could weigh the same today as you did five years ago — but if you’ve lost muscle and gained fat, your overall health and mobility may have shifted significantly.
Percent Body Fat tells us what percentage of your body is made up of fat. Two people may weigh the exact same, but one may have 20% body fat and the other 35%. That difference can have a major impact on strength, balance, energy, and long-term wellness.
What’s Considered a Healthy Range?
Healthy body fat percentages vary depending on age, activity level, and personal health history. But as a general guideline:
Women: 18% – 28%
Men: 10% – 20%
Levels higher than these ranges can increase the risk of conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and joint pain. On the flip side, building muscle and reducing body fat can support better energy levels, improved mobility, and greater independence as we age.
How We Use PBF to Personalize Your Training
At Lowcountry Elite Performance, we use InBody scans to go far beyond the number on the scale. With each scan, we can:
✔ Set more accurate, personalized goals
✔ Track your true progress — even when your weight doesn’t change
✔ Adjust your workouts and nutrition plan based on real-time data
✔ Show you how your hard work is paying off
Our goal is to help you feel strong, confident, and in control of your health journey — using metrics that actually matter.
You Are More Than a Number on the Scale
Don’t let the scale determine your success. Let’s measure what truly matters.
Whether your goal is to feel better, move better, or age with strength and grace — knowing your body composition is a powerful place to start.
